GHR Code of Ethics

Ethics & Standards

I practise in accordance with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) Code of Ethics, one of the most respected professional standards in UK hypnotherapy.

Why ethics matter in hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy involves a significant degree of trust. You are working with your subconscious mind, often exploring sensitive or personal territory. That is why professional ethics are not just a formality. They are the foundation of safe, effective practice. With a strong background in safeguarding and wellbeing, I take this seriously.

The principles I work by

Client confidentiality

Information shared during sessions is treated confidentially. I will not discuss your sessions with anyone without your explicit consent, except in the limited circumstances required by safeguarding duties or law - for example, where there is a risk of serious harm. These exceptions are explained before therapy begins.

Informed consent

You will always know what to expect before a session begins. I will explain the process, answer your questions, and ensure you are comfortable and willing before any hypnotherapy work takes place. You are always in control.

Client empowerment

I believe in empowering clients rather than taking control away from them. Sessions are designed to support you in building awareness, reducing distress, and developing practical strategies for change. You remain in the driving seat throughout.

Duty of care

Your wellbeing comes first, always. If I believe that hypnotherapy is not the right approach for your situation, I will tell you honestly and, where appropriate, suggest other avenues. Sessions are never pushed or prolonged beyond what is in your best interest.

Safeguarding & professional boundaries

With a strong background in safeguarding and wellbeing, I maintain clear professional boundaries at all times. The therapeutic space is safe, neutral, and entirely focused on your needs. No exploitation, no dual relationships, no pressure.

Practitioner competence

I only work within my areas of training and competence. All case-study sessions are conducted with access to professional supervision and tutor support through my training programme. I am committed to evidence-informed practice and continuous professional development.

Non-discrimination

I welcome clients of all backgrounds, identities, and circumstances. Sessions are provided without discrimination on any grounds. Everyone deserves access to support.

The General Hypnotherapy Register

The GHR is one of the UK's leading professional bodies for hypnotherapy. I practise in alignment with the GHR Code of Ethics throughout my training. My training programme at Evolve Life Coaching College is aligned with GHR standards. I am currently a student practitioner working towards qualification.

Professional insurance

I hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance for hypnotherapy practice. This means you are protected, and I am accountable, for every session.

Professional support

Sessions are conducted privately between you and me. As a student practitioner, I have access to professional supervision and tutor support through my training programme at Evolve Life Coaching College. This means I can seek professional guidance on my practice, including on ethical or safeguarding matters, as part of my ongoing development.
